Food Lovin': B&D Burgers - Savannah, GA

On my last night in Savannah, my boyfriend Nic and I went to dinner at the legendary B&D Burgers. They have three locations in Savannah alone, so if the one on Broughton is packed (or closed, because you didn’t check the hours) you can walk over to Abercorn or Congress and eat there.
I am a sucker for a restaurant that has an outdoor patio, ambient music, and low lighting. I think that is the perfect equation for a great date night or a night out with the girls, because with lower light and background noise, the conversation flows more freely. We went to the one on Congress Street, and while the inside of the restaurant was pretty empty, it was because everyone was eating outside. The patio was perfect, with a canopy overhead, giant fans to circulate the air, background music that ranged from country to reggae, and TVs scattered about that were tuned to the baseball game.

Here is a shot of the menu and my drink. Not a great picture, but I was too hungry to capture anything else!

We got the buffalo chicken dip as an appetizer, which was a tad greasy and definitely not as good as mine (you can roll your eyes, it’s okay) but still good. The burger menu itself was an interesting read, no only because they have all types of burgers with all types of toppings, but the burgers were all named after historically important things around Savannah, from important families to landmarks to surrounding towns.
There is also the option to create your own burger, which I did with American cheese, bacon, and guacamole. And they didn’t skimp either, I’m talking two thick slices of bacon and a healthy dollop of guac. That is the recipe for happiness, people. Nic got the Whitemarsh burger, which was topped with cheddar cheese, bacon, barbecue sauce, and freshly made onion rings.

I wish I had thought to take a picture of the actual food, but I was so hungry I just dug right in. Both were absolutely delicious, and if you’re in the area I definitely recommend stopping by!

Sunday Currently

My life has been a series of major adjustments lately, so I figured the best way to get back into blogging while organizing my mind a little would be to start with a Sunday Currently post, courtesy of the lovely siddathornton. Starting on Sundays is nice. It's the first day of the week, the calm before the storm, and the time to make your last minute to-do's (like write a blog post at 11:30 pm), don't-forgets, and squeeze a liiiiitle more fun out of your weekend.

I just got back from a lovely week -long vacation in Naples, FL with my boyfriend and his family. I'm staying in Savannah until Tuesday, and then I start my new job on Friday. So, let's start the week off right!

Currently I am...

READING:
I am thoroughly enjoying Mindy Kaling's book, "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)," half because the title sums up my daily thoughts every day of college, and half because she is hilarious and brilliant all at once. I will be reviewing it soon!
WRITING:
My ever-so-long to do list for the week. Of course, I neglected everything I needed to do for all of last week, so all the emails, phone calls, and (ugh) summer homework assignments must be attended to.
LISTENING:
To an incredibly vocal cricket and the sound of the air conditioning. I love when it's quiet at night, and the crickets or a gentle rain put me to sleep faster than anything else.
THINKING:
That while you should try to never go to bed angry, sometimes it just happens. And it might make for some really weird dreams.
SMELLING:
Fresh laundry, and the remnants of reheated pizza. A classic smell, coming to a Yankee Candle near you in 2015.
WISHING:
That I had just a little bit more time on vacation, because while I read almost three books and got a great tan, no vacation is ever long enough to catch up on sleep.
HOPING:
That I kick some serious ass tomorrow and get a good chunk of my list done before I have to travel all day on Tuesday.
WEARING:
My boyfriend's Vineyard Vines shep shirt and sleep shorts. After this post, it's bedtime.
LOVING:
My new Steve Madden flats! I got two pairs on clearance at Famous Footwear today, so in other words, today was perfect.
WANTING:
To sit outside on the balcony as I write this, but alas there is no porch furniture at my boyfriend's apartment.
NEEDING:
To really hydrate tomorrow! I've been seriously slacking, averaging like three cups of water a day this week. My skin is definitely suffering.
FEELING:
Really good that I started the week with a blog post.

Have an excellent Monday everyone, and if you start the week strong by Thursday you'll be singing the weekend tunes!

Great. Another girl with a blog.

Because I know you all were thinking "I really wish just one more twentysomething would start a blog about the crap she does all day."
Here to answer your prayers is me! Hi everyone, I'm Harper. In a nutshell, I am a college student, a sorority girl, dog lover, spoiled loving girlfriend, and a Type A neurotic mess. I love football, painting my nails, and rewriting my notes to color-code the important parts. If I had to guess, I would say I spend approximately 40% of my time daydreaming about being glamorous, 20% of my time online (window) shopping, 15% of my time eating or watching TV, another 15% of my time having and internal mental breakdown, and 10% actually doing what I'm supposed to.
I have about 15 pairs of shoes, and yet my Uggs are so worn they might just fall off my feet. I panic when my leggings are in the dirty laundry, and I wash my favorite jeans every week. I drag my feet on the mornings that I have to blow dry my hair. I do the Mean Girls stare-at-myself-and-judge routine in the mirror almost every morning. I walk into Forever21 and I cringe because it's so disorganized. But I love that my dogs burst into my room at 7:15 am on the dot, I love cleaning my room, and I love that I still have so much time to do all the things I want to.
I started this blog because Lord knows I have a lot of opinions and I just love to share them. If you do decide to give my blog a chance, you can expect to read about makeup, food, fitness, things that annoy me, and my latest obsessions, which could range from that breakfast sandwich I had at the deli next to where I drop my laundry off to the sweater I saw a stranger wearing and spent three hours trying to find it on Pinterest.

I am aware that I've made myself sound like a typical sorority girl, not a care in the world besides what she looks like each day. But my blog is called Harper Trying for a reason. At the end of the day when we all lay in bed, makeup scrubbed off, snuggled next to our favorite pillow pet, and start to think about our to do list for tomorrow, we are all the same. We're just trying. Trying to be the best at our job, trying to pass our political philosophy class, trying to be productive the day after we stayed out until 4 am. I am trying to be so many things each day. A daughter my mother can be proud of, a sorority woman who shines in her letters, a girlfriend who doesn't drive him crazy, a sister that everyone can go to, a great student, a good employee. Whether we succeed or fail, everyone is trying, and I think we should get more credit for that.
